Abstract Submission Deadline Extended to Dec 6
New Department of Treasury Sanctions Regulations
Participation from Iran,
On August 24, 2026, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) suspended the general licenses that had allowed U.S. universities to hold conferences and academic exchanges involving people in Iran (31 CFR §§ 560.544 and 560.554, and Iran General License G). As a U.S. host institution, UC Davis is required to comply. As a result, unless OFAC grants a specific license, NACIL 5 cannot accept abstracts from, or presentations by, people who are located in or ordinarily resident in Iran. This applies to both in-person and remote presentations.
This restriction depends on where a person lives, not on nationality or citizenship. Scholars of Iranian origin and Iranian citizens who live and work outside Iran are welcome to submit as usual. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, for example if you are temporarily outside Iran, or if a co-author lives in Iran, please write to NACILConference@gmail.com before submitting. We will check with UC Davis’s export control office.
Colleagues in Iran have been part of NACIL since its founding, and we deeply regret this. The conference program, abstracts, and presentations will remain openly available on NACIL’s website.

Word Limit: Abstracts must not exceed 1000 words. This does not include words used in presented data (examples, tables, and graphs).
Data: Examples, tables, and graphs do not count towards the word limit but must remain minimal. They can appear in the body or at the end.
Anonymity: Submissions must not reveal the identity of the author(s) in any way.
